We Planted a Rainbow

November 17, 2009

Last fall we decided to plant ourselves a rainbow. After being inspired by the book Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert, we started to diligently plan for our homegrown rainbow.

We planted Tulips in Red and Orange. Next came the Yellow Daffodils. The beautiful leaves provided us with an abundance of Green. Blue Grape Hyacinths brought us a touch of blue. Our Indigo came from Purple Sensation Alliums and our Violet was brought to us by Fragrant Hyacinths.

It was so much fun keeping track of the colors as they blossomed. We thoroughly enjoyed the fruits of our labor…

[...] This idea is my absolute favorite and takes only a little planning. Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert inspired the mom at Playful Learning to do just that. She found flowers in different colors and planted the bulbs with the help from her kids. If you plant bulbs now, they’ll be blooming by the summer. Dig your holes and let your child drop in the bulbs. Read the full post at Playful Learning. [...]
