Teaching Children About the Presidential Election

We are down the homestretch of the presidential election and now that my daughters are a bit older, they have more questions than ever! I love that they are taking an interest in this important event, so I have gathered some helpful resources for explaining and engaging them in this process. I love hearing their views and seeing them take their first stances on certain issues. It is the beginning of long and rewarding journey of talking about and processing the many issues that we face as a society—together as a family.
Happy voting!

These are wonderful resources. I’ve decided to spend some time tomorrow with my kiddos doing election-related activities. I so want them to understand our political process and to grow up appreciating their right to vote.
I made this pretend voting booth with them last night- it was so much fun. http://blogs.babble.com/kid-scoop/2012/11/04/how-to-make-a-pretend-voting-booth-just-in-time-for-election-day/
Mary Lauren – I love it!
Great list of resources, Mariah! I’m anxious to watch the returns with my girls tomorrow, they are really excited about the election this year. Glad you are all safe and sound. -Sarah
Thanks Sarah! Yes, we are very blessed to be safe, sound, and warm…
Excellent resources here! Thank you for sharing. Although my kids are too young to understand (other than they know they go with me, and get a sticker, and it’s important!) my oldest was able to watch the first video and was interested.
I’m sharing this post on facebook. I know plenty of families who would appreciate this.
