Summer Reads Bingo

July 1, 2009

Our nearly 1st grade daughter came home with a great summer reading assignment – Summer Reads Bingo. I am a fan of children reading everyday – but not of “having to read for 30 minutes a day.” I have found that the clock becomes the focal point rather than the book at hand and eventually for some children their innate desire to read disappears.

So… when I saw this “playful” approach to encouraging summer reading I thought is was so good that I made a few adjustments and whipped up a copy that you could print out and use yourself.

I have a 7 year old daughter with dyslexia. She has made giant leaps this year in reading but still struggles. I am trying to find new ways to help her that are fun and creative. She is a very aristic imaginative child. she wants to read but due to the dyslexia gets frustrated and tired. If you have any suggestions i would be very appreciative.

I love this! Thanks for sharing! I wish there was one for middle schoolers. My daughter does not like to read.

I am a reading intervention teacher and I came up with something similar for my K-5 students. Yours is much better though!

I love the idea! It came from the reading specialist at my daughters’ school… I just personalized it a bit! Thanks for your comment…

This is a fantastic idea! I agree with you about not wanting to watch the clock to “time” the reading… This game makes reading what it should be… FUN!
    Thanks for sharing!
