In these parent-child toddler music classes led by Markard Music’s Marlene Markard, we dance, move, sing, play musical games, engage in scarf play, explore instruments, learn active listening skills, and engage in other fun and stimulating activities, designed to lay the foundation for music literacy, foster a life-long love of music, and promote kinesthetic, linguistic, emotional, cognitive, and social skills that will prepare your child for success in school and beyond.
Marlene (Mar-lay-na) Markard has been making music since she was a young child and is passionate about playing, teaching, and making music with others. Marlene owns and operates Markard Music, a vibrant music studio serving the East End of Long Island, where she gives private piano lessons to students of all ages and teaches early childhood music classes as part of the Musikgarten curriculum. She is a member of the faculties of the Children’s Museum of the East End, the Southampton Cultural Center, and the East End Arts School. She also has an active concert schedule as soloist and duettist throughout Long Island.
Marlene is a classically-trained pianist and a licensed Musikgarten teacher. She attended the Pre-College Divisions of The Juilliard School, The Manhattan School of Music, and the Mannes College of Music, from which she earned her Music Certificate. She holds a B.A., cum laude, in English Literature and Music from Barnard College, where she was a cross-registration at The Manhattan School of Music. Marlene has participated in international music festivals and in master classes with Yo Yo Ma and Yevgeny Kissin. Her teachers have included Dalia Sakas, Jane Carlson, Solomon Mikowsky, and Arkady Aronov.
