Playful Learning Traditions: Time Capsules

January 10, 2011

My goal in opening Playful Learning (the space) was to create a place where families could spend time together and engage in playful learning experiences without having to plan or gather supplies themselves. We have a lovely atelier in the back of the shop and always have games, writing supplies, and activities available for families to engage with.

This month we are introducing Playful Learning Traditions—seasonal activities that parents can come in and experience with their children. My wish is that these projects become yearly traditions that people come in and share year after year.

For our first Playful Learning Tradition, we are doing time capsules. Children will receive a time capsule canister and have the opportunity to create a self-portrait, make a list of things they would like to do in 2011, and reflect a bit on their current interests. Then, after tucking away the capsule for the year, everyone will enjoy looking back at their work as they move into 2012!

So, if you live nearby, come on in and enjoy! Or make a time capsule at home by clicking on the links above.
