Observing and Drawing Daffodils

Listed in Arts & Crafts, Science

Observing closely and drawing what you see is a wonderful activity for encouraging children to notice the finer details of everyday objects. We decided to bring in one of our freshly blossomed daffodils to serve as the inspiration for our drawings.

The girls started out by taking some time to explore the daffodil with a magnifying glass—noticing the lines, shapes, textures and patterns of the flower. Next, using a fine-point, black permanent marker, the girls sketched what they saw. They finished by adding a wash of color over their drawings.
