DIY Pampering Kit
Hmmm? What to get for a nine-year-old girl that is meaningful, not too commercial, does not require a power adapter and still has the “cool” factor? Once I truly wrapped my mind around this puzzle, I realized that there are a lot of great options. I particularly enjoyed this post by mamascout.
After some thought, I decided to go down the how-to-kit route (my favorite gift genre). Now that she is, as they say, moving into the territory of “reading to learn rather than learning to read,” how-to books are a wonderful way for her to pursue interests and discover new pursuits. I also wanted to take advantage of the chatterbox that seems to surface during our most relaxed times. So, I decided to put together a DIY Pampering Kit. That way we could spend time together creating and sharing in pampering sessions that include long periods of indulging in face masks, conditioning treatments, moisturizing cuticles, etc. Yet, I also wanted to be sure that the ingredients and processes we utilize send the right messages about beauty and self-image. So I was thrilled when I found the book, Eco Beauty by Lauren and Janice Cox. It is filled with easy-to-do recipes that include ingredients most of us already have in our kitchens. I combined the book with some of the most commonly listed ingredients and pretty empty bottles for our new creations. Viola! I had hours of shared time and experiences all wrapped up in a gift!
Oh yes, and of course we will accompany our pampering sessions with a lovely cup of DIY Tea.
