Diary of a Bulb

January 28, 2010

Parts of an AmaryllisA wonderful way to bring some color and life into your home during the “cabin fever” months is to force bulbs. This year we found a fun (see above) forcing vase for Amaryllis bulbs, so we gave it a whirl.

We simply filled the bottom portion with water (making sure the roots were always wet) and placed the bulb in the upper portion of the vase.

Note: It is important to change the water every few days because it can get rather smelly!

The girls took photos every few days to document the growth and changes of the Amaryllis. As the bulb was growing we observed and identified the various parts of the flower. At the end of the process, we put together all of their photos and created a video diary of the bulb’s life.

It is really a miraculous process when you see how nature unfolds in all of its splendor!
