Dem Bones: Learning About the Human Skeleton

October 7, 2009

Pasta Skeletons“Mom, did you know the human body has over 200 bones?” The girls love learning about the human body, so I thought with Halloween approaching it would be a fun time to explore the human skeleton. After doing some research, I came across this great idea from Art Projects for Kids.

I simply checked out a few books on skeletons from the library and left them out on our coffee table. Within minutes of discovering them, the girls were both flipping the pages and sharing the tidbits of information they were gleaning. When I asked them if they wanted to make their own skeleton, they jumped at the opportunity.

I set up some bowls containing a variety of different pastas. I also made sure to have some labeled images of skeletons on the table so we could discuss the different bones as they were working. I was amazed at the time and care they took in trying to add as many of the correct bones as possible.

Making pasta skeletons was a fun and educational project and a great way to create some spooky Halloween Decorations!
