Book Love: Moving Through the Seasons
This year, as we move through the seasons, we have welcomed two new (to us) books into our family cycle…
Enid Blyton’s Nature Lover’s Book, which I discovered here, is a true gem. It is about three siblings who meet a neighbor, who helps them to discover all of the seasonal delights that nature has to offer. The book takes the reader through two nature walks each month and in a delightful fictional narrative draws us into the wonders of the natural world and the subtle changes that take place with each passing month. We have decided to read this book month by month, along with a friend of ours, and then partake in an outdoor adventure, comparing notes along the way. It is such a wonderful way to bring literature to life!

The second seasonal tradition that we have embraced this year is moving our way each month through The Rhythm of the Family by Amanda and Stephen Soule (side note: we share the same publisher). The Soules have provided readers a glimpse into the yearly rhythms of their family and home. The girls loved reading January’s essays aloud and then choosing an activity from the book. I love that this book offers a gentle reminder to slow down just enough to reflect on the unique gift that each and every month has to offer.
Both of these books have reminded us to appreciate the simple pleasures that life has to offer and give us a special something to look forward to as a family each month.
