My daughter brought home the book, What’s New, Cupcake?: Ingeniously Simple Designs for Every Occasion by Karen Tack from her school library and had already placed at least 20 bookmarks on the pages of designs that she wanted to try. After oohing and awing over the miraculous things that can be done with cupcakes, we decided to try out the artist palette concept—it seemed both creative and manageable (you should see some of the other cupcake designs!)
My only apprehension was the food coloring due to my growing concern about artificial food dyes. Then serendipitously I received an email from Maggie’s Naturals about their wonderful natural food colors. Problem solved! As we decorated we had a great time reading (and being able to understand—always a good sign!) the ingredients for each color…
BLUE: blue gardenia extract
BROWN: caramelized sugar
GREEN: green gardenia extract, spinach, and parsley
PINK: beets and sweet potato
ORANGE: annatto seed
Carefree fun all around!
