Apple Picking, Apple Recipes & Apple Inspiration

September 22, 2009

Apples, Apples & More Apples from Playful LearningWhat better way to bring in the autumn season than with apple picking? The sun was shining, there was a cool crispness in the air and we had a wonderful morning, carefully selecting only the finest apples.

When we returned home with our bounty, we set out to find just the right recipe to put our apples to good use. We decided to adapt Mollie Katzen’s Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp. We followed the recommendation in her Moosewood Cookbook and substituted the strawberry-rhubarb mixture with:
6 cups of sliced apples
3 Tbs. lemon juice
1/4 cup of white sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

From tree to table—it was a truly satisfying and delicious experience!
