    Playful Learning's One-Room Schoolhouse...

I hinted awhile back that Playful Learning has some exciting news on the horizon, which we have been busily preparing for behind the scenes. For those of you who have been reading Playful Learning for some time, you know that there is usually a space at the center of any new project that I embark upon—our new phase is no different. While the direction of Playful Learning is to enhance our online offerings by creating an inspiring collection of amazing little eCourses. At the heart of everything we do is our time spent together as a family, engaging in the projects that we share with you.

With this in mind we set out to create a work +play space that would enhance our experiences as well act as an inspiring backdrop for the videos we are producing for our upcoming eCourses. My inspiration for our new space was fueled by my love for the one-room schoolhouses of yesteryear. With a clear understanding of how we would be using the room, basic guidelines on creating spaces for children, and the aesthetic guidance of Farrin Cary Design, we created a room that encourages exploration, creativity, discovery, and growth.

Enjoy the tour and stay tuned for an exciting announcement in the coming weeks…

    mariah

With over 10 years of EDU experience and a growing family, Mariah started Playful Learning in 2008 as a resource for parents and teachers. In 2010 Playful Learning received the Parent’s Choice Gold Medal, and in August of 2011, Shambhala Publications released her first book, Playful Learning: Develop Your Child’s Sense of Joy and Wonder. Mariah has an M.S. Ed in Elementary Education and was that girl sitting in the back of class thinking about what she would do differently if she was the teacher. Now she is happily working with a team of gifted educators to bring life-changing lessons to children, families, and schools around the world. In her free time she can be found taking long walks, enjoying a cup of tea, or swimming in the Atlantic with her husband and two daughters.

    1. What a wonderful, inspiring room, Mariah! I would love to have a room like that in our home… something to aspire to, for sure!! Really looking forward to seeing what else you have in store!! H xo

    2. My heart is swooning over how beautiful & inspiring your new space is! I’ve loved seeing how the learning spaces in your home have evolved & grown.

    3. Beautiful and inspiring! We should all have a space with similar elements, even if just a corner of our home. Thank you for sharing. Since we can’t all have you in person, lucky for us you provide us with the tools and resources!

    4. Beautiful. The botanic prints and pillows especially caught my eye. Where dud you get them from, if you don’t mind me asking?

    5. The black globe is eye catching. It’s something I’ve never seen before. The room is magnificent. Beautifully decorated with only what is needed. Love it!

    6. Amazing! So beautiful and easy on the eyes. I LOve every detail. Thanks for the continued inspiration and keep doing what you do best! (inspiring a love for learning for child and adult alike).

    7. Oh, I love this soooo much! I love your inspiration for it too. I have one room available for my kids and this just struck a chord with me immediately. I keep trying to simplify, simplify, simplify and yet somehow we still get over run with supplies and stuff. Having that phrase ‘one room schoolhouse’ in mind is going to be my mental mantra as I embark on decluttering again. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!

    8. I haven’t had a chance to read all the details but the pictures are amazing – I want to curl up on that little settee with the beautiful pillows and never leave. You don’t mind an extra body in your space do you??? Thanks for the inspiration, it’s beautiful!

    9. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I love the touches like the botanical prints–I’m always attracted to that. Can’t wait to pin some of those for inspiration for ‘later’.

    10. WOW!!! What an inviting space. Bright, beautiful and inspiring. I’m doing some renovation at home soon and I’m looking forward to create a space as lovely as this. For sure I’ll put into practice what I learned at your Playful Learning Spaces course.
      Thanks

    11. WOW WOW WOW Mariah! This room gave me goosebumps. Very inspiring, beautiful, simple and practical. Thank you so much for sharing. I love everything you do, can’t wait to see more!

    12. I absolutely love this one room school room!! Mariah, do you homeschool? Also, I was wondering if it will ever be an option to be able to receive credit for continuing education for teachers?

    13. My dream room! Although I love the white, I’d need to change colors (Laos is too dusty with red dirt) but this is exactly what I want to create for my kids. Although one is still in the tummy and the other is 8 months… guess I can start collecting materials! :)

    14. So beautiful and peaceful. I can’t wait to make a classroom of our own. I will be using yours as inspiration.
