Teacher Gifts: Relaxation Kits

Being a classroom teacher was the most demanding job that I have ever had. Not only are teachers required to be renaissance people who are well versed in multiple subject areas, but they must meet the needs of children with varying levels of development and multiple learning styles in classrooms with ever expanding class sizes. Along with preparing at least 3-5 engaging and interesting lessons a day, they must be prepared to interrupt any given lesson or work period to blow noses, tie shoes, clean-up spills, track down forgotten notes regarding pick-up, address sore stomachs or respond to parent emails. Not to mention, ease anxieties, boost self-esteem, manage behavior, teach manners, resolve conflicts, challenge the children that need enrichment, spend extra time with the ones that need remediation and engage children who speak and learn in different languages… the list goes on and on. Oh, yes and teachers must do all of the above with the kindest voice and warmest of tones, never letting on that they may be feeling stressed or overworked.

With the everyday demands that teachers experience in mind, we created relaxation kits as holiday gifts. Hopefully they will offer a moment of solitude and a bit of rejuvenation to the people who spend so much valuable time with our children.

With over 10 years of EDU experience and a growing family, Mariah started Playful Learning in 2008 as a resource for parents and teachers. In 2010 Playful Learning received the Parent’s Choice Gold Medal, and in August of 2011, Shambhala Publications released her first book, Playful Learning: Develop Your Child’s Sense of Joy and Wonder. Mariah has an M.S. Ed in Elementary Education and was that girl sitting in the back of class thinking about what she would do differently if she was the teacher. Now she is happily working with a team of gifted educators to bring life-changing lessons to children, families, and schools around the world. In her free time she can be found taking long walks, enjoying a cup of tea, or swimming in the Atlantic with her husband and two daughters.
