Making & Burning Beeswax Candles

Because lighting candles is such a big part of what we do everyday, we thought it would be fun to try to make some of our own. I was not quite ready to take on the beautiful, hand-dipped version that Renee at FIMBY created – although it is next on our list. This candle making kit from Magic Cabin seemed to be the perfect entry point into candle making for the girls and me.

Rolled Beeswax Candles
The kit contains colorful sheets of beeswax, cotton string and a pattern.

We used the pattern to cut the beeswax sheet in half. Next we aligned the string along the left had side of the wax.

The girls slowly rolled the beeswax around the string.

They used some of the beeswax sheets to cut out different shapes and designs for decorating.

They were very proud of their creations… and loved watching their candles as they illuminated our next meal.

Mariah has an M.S. Ed in Elementary Education and was that girl sitting in the back of class thinking about what she would do differently if she was the teacher. Now she is happily working with a team of gifted educators to bring life-changing lessons to children, families, and schools around the world. In her free time she can be found taking long walks, enjoying a cup of tea, or swimming in the Atlantic with her husband and two daughters.
